By partnering with LR Engineering (LRE) on your staircase project you will be engaging with an experienced team who understand the design possibilities for your project but also the building codes and regulations involved. We offer a full service starting with a site-survey, design, manufacture and installation. We can also offer maintenance services.
Our built for purpose manufacturing facility is based in the Cotswolds, convenient to Swindon, Oxford, Cheltenham, Bristol, convenient to the M4 and M5 corridors, but for larger projects we are working across the UK. We have a fleet of vehicles that our skilled team utilise for installations.
Clients include Spirax Sarco, BMW MINI, Siemens Healthcare, University of Oxford, Jaguar Land Rover, WRC, Xylem and many more industrial and technology led organisations, many have partnered with and trusted LRE for decades.
We operate with Factory Production Control (FPC), UKCA (CE) marking our work, operating to BS EN ISO 3834-3, ISO 15641-1, ISO 9606-1 and ISO 3834.

Our typical industrial metal staircase projects include
We offer industrial steel staircases bespoke to our clients’ needs who are typically in the manufacturing, plant, utilities, energy and commercial sectors for this product solution. We do offer a design service but can also work with your design specifications. Our staircases can be for indoor or outdoor use and will be treated and finished accordingly for longevity and safety. Safety is paramount, not just in the use of the final delivered equipment, but also in the manufacture and installation of the project. We are skilled at working within our clients’ environments.
Each steel staircase is built bespoke, customised individual items or part of a larger project. Treads can be selected to meet the needs of the staircase use, safety and anticipated usage capacity considered. We can build alternating tread stairs where space is a premium. We also create staircases in stainless steel, aluminium and with mixed materials include glass or perspex.

Another area we have experience in project work is emergency exit and fire escape staircases, these can be internal of external, or a mix of both scenarios where required. Potentially with platforms or ladder combinations. We will work with you to discuss compliance with building codes and regulations, considering capacity and width. Typical sectors would be industrial manufacturing facilities, commercial buildings, educational institutions or healthcare facilities.
Many organisations fit external outdoors staircases to maximise building capacity. This could be an extension of the internal building, hence potentially covered and/or insulated, or these are staircases for emergency exit or fire escape reasons. Projects can mix staircases, platforms, canopies, walkways and ladders – ultimately the scenario that delivers you best business value. Creating mezzanine levels integrated with staircases for outdoor employee space, with outdoors furniture, can deliver employee benefits as well as meeting compliance regulations.
Fixed steel or aluminium access ladders (also known as kat or cat ladders) can be with or without a surrounding cage, these ladders are likely used for roof, platform or mezzanine access. Cage requirements will depend on building codes, please talk to us about your specific project, we can also add wire mesh to enhance safety. We can create the ladders with a top exit cage or a cage with walk thru exit. Ladders are built specific to your required length, over 2.5m and you will likely need a cage. Lockable entrance options can be included. We also do companionway ladders which are angled ladders with side rail handles, also known as just companion ladders or ships ladders.
Largely created for when access is restricted, or space is at a premium, spiral or helical staircases offer a solution where traditional staircase are not suitable. Helical staircases have an advantage in that they can be built at great heights without the need for extra supports. These staircases do offer practical safety elements, in that they have a reduced trip hazard, they have wider treads at the outer edge, they have a central handrail as well as external hand rail, and emergency services can effectively utilise helical staircases for casualty evacuation. Visibility can also be good on a spiral staircase. LRE can build the staircase to your ergonomic and visual needs, with a left or right exit structure. We can also build stainless steel staircases for clean environments or visual effect.
We have worked in various commercial environments for staircase design, construction and installation. This includes main entrance staircases, design statement staircases, fire escape staircases and emergency exit staircases. All typically bespoke made to the clients needs. We have also worked with disabled access ramps in commercial environments.
We also do a full range of mezzanines, platforms, walkways and catwalks for industrial applications.
